Garmin Nuvi 1390T weighs 5.7 ounces and has rubberized rugged housing. It has very slim chassis and is 2.9 inches high, 4.8 inches wide and 0.6 inch deep. The Garmin Nuvi 1390T has 4.3 inch touch screen with resolution of 480×272 pixels and it is quite similar to other devices in its class. A two piece basic mount makes it very to fix this gadget to a windshield on the car dashboard with addition of included disc which is backed with adhesive. However, the power cord connects to the 1390T directly which means you have to disconnect it manually each time you exit from the car.

While testing, the Garmin Nuvi 1390T took some time to lock on to my location for the first time but after that, the things were pretty fast. Searching for POI here was easy just like other Garmin devices and it was because of the spacious on screen QWERTY keyboard, smart category definitions and six million POI database which was well populated. Bringing up the recent destinations, searching for nearby POIs and saving favorites was very easy. Along with that, the Garmin Nuvi 1390T also shows the direction and distance for each POI and the view is constantly refreshed. This will come in handy while you are driving on any unfamiliar territory looking for the nearest gas station.

Garmin Nuvi 1390T has something called ecoRoute feature which gives plenty of useful trip information. This will compute the total cost of your trip based on average mileage of the car, current gas prices and driving techniques of the driver. Other than that, this device also computes other relevant information like computing the carbon footprint. All this is good but I didn’t find the ecoRoute icon really useful. This icon changes color according to how you drive. Green means that you are driving efficiently and then there are red and yellow colors if too much time is spent idling or if you brake or accelerate too sharply.

The animation and map graphics on the Garmin Nuvi 1390T too have been smoothed out. The may view will adjust the zoom level and camera automatically for optimizing the view around the exit ramps, zomming in closer on the local streets, and zooming back out on the highways. The colorful icons and sharp fonts couldn’t have been any larger; they are exploit the display real estate to the fullest.
